With 88 curved pieces sewn by machine this quilt was my biggest challenge so far because of its overall small size (26" in diameter). There is no appliqué; it is completely pieced.

Originally it was made as a challenge quilt for Victoria’s Satin Moon Quilt Shop’s 25th anniversary. The only rule was that a moon had to be included. October Sky received second place honours in the viewers’ choice. It also was juried into Quiltfest 2004 of APNQ (Association for Pacific Northwest Quilters).

At the request of viewers and students the design was then adapted into a combination of invisible machine appliqué and Satin Stitch appliqué and appeared as pattern #133 “October Sky” in my pattern line.
