In 1991 I took my first quilting class, which moved my life into a completely new direction. I had sewn and knitted for almost as long as I can remember and had taught needlecrafts to adults and children alike – but quiltmaking was new to me. So many designs and techniques to play with! This was fun!!
At first I just concentrated on learning as much as possible by applying the wealth of new knowledge to wall hanging-sized quilts which I sold at our local guild sales. That proved ideal because as soon as an item sold, I had a reason to try out something else.
Not too long and I would muster all my courage to offer quilting classes at our local quilt store Satin Moon Quilt Shop in Victoria, BC. I based my teaching style on my past experience as a public school teacher and on the question: what would I want to learn if I signed up for this class? I am extremely grateful to Robyn Whitbread, the second owner of Satin Moon, who allowed me to follow my own ideas.
This would eventually lead to my pattern line “Designs to Share with You”.
Here I want to showcase some of the quilts that I made for my own enjoyment. Most of them will stay in my family, but some of them might also end up being classes at the request of my many students and, who knows, maybe even as new “Designs to Share with You”!
Enjoy!
